Member Saves Injured Citizen from a Burning Vehicle
At approximately 0320 hours the rescue engine and ambulance were dispatched to a vehicle accident less than one mile from the firehouse. The call was quickly upgraded to one person trapped and the vehicle on fire. Simultaneously, an off-duty member of company 27 was traveling down Suitland Road and came upon the accident. This member didn’t miss a beat and jumped into action, breaking out the sunroof and extricating the injured citizen from their burning vehicle. Once this was done, this member immediately began to administer life saving first aid, all before the arrival of any other emergency crews. If not for the bravery and quick thinking of this member, who wished to remain anonymous, this incident could have had a very different outcome.
