Remembering Kenneth Hendrick
On this day in 1992, we suffered a tremendous loss to this organization that still affects us. Our own Firefighter Kenneth “Kenny” Hedrick was killed in the Line of Duty while operating in a house fire on Walls Lane. Kenny grew up around the fire station, he was the son of the Morningside Fire Chief Les Hedrick, he was a friend, he was a brother to all of our members, he was a member of all of our families, and he was a tremendous young man with unlimited potential.
Unfortunately, Kenny perished moments after rescuing a child. He performed in the highest traditions of the Fire Service and suffered the ultimate sacrifice for that. We love Kenny; last night his father (still an active Board of Director and Life Member of the Department) attended our monthly General Membership and Board of Directors Meeting.
Les and his Wife Cathy continue to be a force in this Department, in our community and in the Fire Service. They continue to give and we continue to love them and remember Kenny. We ask that you join us today in supporting our members, their loved ones and friends and our community as we remember a fallen hero – Kenneth M. Hedrick, God Bless all of our First Responders who risk it all to keep us safe and are serving so that others may live.
