Making History
February 22nd marked another landmark for Morningside. In cooperation with Prince George’s County along with Fire and EMS Department Chief Bashoor, we placed our Department owned Ambulance In Service. The MVFD has never owned an ambulance since its inception in 1944, however, a County Owned and Operated Ambulance began operating out of the MVFD fire station in 2006.
In 2012 the MVFD elected to become a 100% Volunteer Department and assumed staffing responsibility of the previously owned and operated ambulance from the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department. This was no easy undertaking, the Department had to restructure itself to support this initiative and is proud to say that we provide this vital service to our community.
Taking the next step, the MVFD acquired and deployed a BLS Transport unit. The currently assigned County Owned ambulance will be redeployed to another fire station in need of replacement. We are glad to be a part of this win – win scenario and look forward to continually providing service to meet the needs of this community.
