Sunday, August 15, 2010 0348 After clearing a box assignment at the previous location minutes ago, Engine 271 was just a couple of blocks away from to quarters before the box was filled for the same location at 8914 Autumn Way in the Tanglewood section of Clinton. Engine company 25 and Rescue Squad 40 was on the scene and filled the box for a kitchen fire with extension into the cockloft area. Engine 271, dispatched as 3rd due, arrived 2nd and assumed the second due engine company responsibilities. Crews inside encountered said conditions, and knocked down the bulk of the fire. Engine 271's crew assisted with hooks and extinguishing hot spots. Command scaled back the incident holding Engine companies 25 & 27 along with Rescue Squad 40. Engine 271 returned to service an hour later.

Thursday, August 12, 2010 During a morning Thunder Storm in Southern Prince George's County, units were alerted for a roof collapse with a broken gas line @ 4949 Allentown Road at the From the Heart Ministries Church. E271 and Rescue Squad 27 quickly arrived on scene to find a large section of roof collapse into the building. Units assisted with the evacuation and monitored the building while a roof unit hung in the balance. The heavy amounts of rain in a short period is believed to be the cause of the collapse. No civilian injuries were reported, however the building suffered serious damage. Engine and Squad cleared in about 2 hours.

Monday, August 9, 2010 Rescue Squad 27 was alerted for an Accident with One Trapped near Ritchie Marlboro Road & Whitehouse Road. After a few calls and some searching, E371 found the accident in the 2200 Block of Ritchie Marlboro Road. E371 found a two vehicle head on collision with one trapped involving a box truck with Diesel Fuel leaking. Rescue Squad 27 arrived and began the extrication using the Hurst Spreaders, Hurst Cutters and multiple Hurst Rams to free the trapped occupant. The crew worked about 20 minutes to complete the extrication after arrival. Rescue Squad cleared and in service in about 45 minutes.
Wednesday, August 4, 2010 Rescue Squad 27 has been named the 14th Buiest Heavy Rescue in the country, according to Firehouse Magazine, Fire Service Statistics for Heavy Rescue's. Rescue Squad 27 is listed as having 2,496 calls in 2009, less than 150 calls out of being in the top 10. Good Job Morningside. Keep up the good work.

Sunday, August 1, 2010 Rescue Squad 27 and other units from PG County were dispatched to assist DCFD with a vehicle accident with entrapment at 2611 Southern Ave. The Rescue Squad arrived and went to work with DC Squad 3 to extricate the patient. Crews removed the driver door, took off the roof, and used rams and spreaders to free the patient. The patient was extricated in under 20 minutes and flown to a local trauma center.
